Colorado has the highest solar thermal resources in the U.S. and could create 24,000 jobs, generating $1 billion in annual state revenue by 2050. Solar Thermal Alliance of Colorado is responsible for the goal. The recent organization was created by an umbrella of organizations in the state, including Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association (COSEIA), Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES), Colorado Environmental Coalition and other organizations.

Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, launched a $12 billion dirham solar project ($3.2 US Dollars) the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The park will eventually have a capacity to generate 1,000 megawatts of power.

SunPower recently announced it is adding a solar energy monitoring application from Android-powered smartphones to its SunPower Monitoring System portfolio, which will allow homeowners to track the performance of their residential solar energy systems. "With the SunPower Monitoring System, our customers can optimize their solar investment by monitoring their energy production and usage in real-time using their smartphones," said David Henry, chief marketing officer for SunPower. "These monitoring tools can be used online or via mobile devices, empowering homeowners to track the efficiency of their systems anytime and from practically any location."

Warren Buffetts MidAmerican Energy Holdings has agreed to buy a solar power farm in California worth $2 Billion. MidAmerican Energy Holdings will take over Topaz Solar Farm, which is expected to produce enough power to run 160,000 homes when it is up and running in 2015.The farm is halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and is the world's second-largest photovoltaic plant under construction and is expected to generate 550-megawatts of electricity or about half the power of a nuclear reactor.

ECC recently announced the completion of its second wind turbine project at the Massachusetts Military Reservation by showcasing the construction of two 1.5-megawatt GE wind turbines, which will support the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment's goal of the MMR being completely powered by renewable energy.

The International Energy Agency historically provides conservative estimates on projections for renewable energy. The agency has embraced the need for more clean electricity and fuels to address climate change and peak oil, but its outlook for the future is usually far more conservative than reality. When the IEA says we could get up to one third of our global energy supply from solar photovoltaics and solar hot water by 2060; that is significant especially if this is a conservative approximation.

For the first time in history, investments in renewable energy installations surpassed investments in fossil fuel plants. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, last year $187 billion was invested in renewable energy installations, which exceeded the $157 billion that was invested in new natural gas, oil and coal plants.
